My mum finally had her dream come true. To have access to all Indonesia's channels in her room using the external antenna. Thanks to the bro in law. And today I decided to make the parent's bed mine since they're out to JB. Chance upon this show called Minta Tolong (Asking for help, a direct translation). It is about a show where each episode they would feature real life story pertaining people asking for help from absolute strangers and it will stop until somebody helps them in one way or another. (or so I think. Its my first time watching it).
This episode featured a roughly 70ish years old granny who lives with her granddaughter. They are extremely poor and her granddaughter needed some money to pay her way overdued school fees of 3months. So granny went out of her way, took one of her 'sarong', which wasnt in the best of condition, to try sell it. Putting aside embarrassment and weariness, she walked around town asking for help, trying to sell it at 200,000 rupiah. Estimated $25. Every single one of them drove her away. Oh bear in mind, no one knew, even for the granny, that Minta Tolong's crews were there following her around. She was oblivious. After 10 hours of going around town, she finally came across an angelic soul who gave her the money without much hesitation. And all the lady was selling is avacado juices.
When the granny walked off, one of the crew went up to the lady pretending to buy a juice and striked a conversation. Like "what was the granny selling? how much was it?" What touched my heart was when the crew asked, "So you just gave her 200,000 for a torn sarong?" And the lady responded, "Ya Nga papa la mbak. Rezeki juga bisa dicari lagik. Die butu bgt uangnya" (She needed the money. Its ok. I can find the money).
In return, the crew gave her MORE than what she gave away to granny. She broke down and cried. Well, thats for being a kind soul. Apparently she's a single mother of 2 kids. Her first daughter's a spastic. Imagine how hard her life is as it is... And she didnt even think twice about helping out someone whom she sees as a person who is much worst off than her.
This episode itself touched me in many ways. And I even shed tears. Knowing for a fact that not many in this world are willing to break down the walls and look out the window. There are people out there who are not in the best of state and holding out a helping hand is not much and will NEVER make you a poorer person. I hope you will look into this. Because I know I will.
Long time ago, I always remember this story my primary school teacher told me.
2 woman went into a church.
The first woman is a very rich woman, gave 100 dollars to God.
The second woman is a very poor woman. She only has 10 dollars and so she gave the full 10 dollars to God.
Guess whom did God talk to at night?
The poor woman.
Why?
Because she gave all she could.
Somehow Farah's entry made me think of this story.
Its not about how much you have, its how much you give.
